Description
Research on the history of architectural education methods in leading architecture schools worldwide since the 1980s has contributed significantly to improving the quality of architectural education. However, in Iran, the most enduring and influential development in architectural education has been the establishment of the College of Fine Arts, which has witnessed three major turning points.
The first milestone was the foundation of the College of Fine Arts by French architect André Godard, who modeled its curriculum after the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The second transformation occurred in 1969 (1348), when a group of young architects who had returned from studying abroad introduced educational reforms inspired primarily by the Bauhaus School. These changes fundamentally altered the college’s teaching methods, particularly in architecture. The third major turning point was the Cultural Revolution of 1980 (1359), following the Islamic Revolution, which significantly impacted architectural education. Since many of the post-revolutionary changes were influenced by professors and graduates from the previous two periods, the first and second periods should be considered the foundational phases of architectural education in Iran.
This book aims to provide a comparative analysis of these two critical periods in the history of architectural education at the College of Fine Arts, offering a deeper understanding of its evolution.
