Description

The book “Urban Landscape in Eastern Europe” by Dr.  Seyed Amir Mansoori, Associate Professor of the Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Tehran, was published in 2018 by the Nazar Institute of Art, Architecture and Urban Planning.
The book is the result of the Nazar Institute’s exploratory trip to Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Belgium in 2008. The teaching is based on the discovery method experienced in this institute, which has two main characteristics: First, learning is the principle and the responsibility for discovering and producing knowledge is the responsibility of the researcher; second, group research and collective work are the principle, in which researchers are mutual teachers of each other. Planned and targeted visits to cities and their specific locations, along with planning and guidance that constantly accompanies the young researchers, provide the right context for the program to flourish. In an exciting and friendly atmosphere, each young researcher is looking for a point that is foreseen for them in the program and shares their findings with the other members of the group. This repetition leads to the formation of discussion sessions, which play an invaluable role in their learning. The results of the exploratory trip to Eastern European cities are presented in 6 chapters:
Chapter 1: Borderlessness, the approach to space-making in Berlin today
Chapter 2: The plasticity of the city
Chapter 3: The two-way street of identity continuity, stillness or life
Chapter 4: The contribution of people's presence to the landscape of urban spaces
Chapter 5: Containing nationalism, the goal of modernization in the Berlin urban landscape
Chapter 6: The relationship of the urban landscape to urban development policies
