Winning the Best Design Trophy at the AYDA International Competition by a Student from the School of Architecture
The GOZAR-e-FARIN project, a product of the Architectural Design and Energy 2 course in 2024, was developed with an integrated design process approach.
- Design Team: Zahra Rostami, Zeinab Dehghan, and Erfan Khalafi
- Supervisor: Dr. Zahra Zamani, Assistant Professor at the Department of Architectural Technology, University of Tehran
The GOZAR-e-FARIN project is more than just a girls' vocational school—it is a revitalization initiative aimed at reconnecting the community with the historical fabric of one of the oldest neighborhoods in Isfahan. Located in the northeastern section of Jameh Mosque, in the Shahshahan district, this area has become detached from the daily life of the city's residents. Thus, restoring this valuable urban fabric was a key inspiration behind the project’s design.
By following an integrated design process, the project not only considered architectural and social sustainability factors but also incorporated comprehensive analyses of light, energy, and wind. The final design follows desert architecture principles while remaining fully in harmony with the historical context.
GOZAR-e-FARIN is a dynamic pathway that allows visitors to pass through a handicraft market run by students, enjoy a local café, and experience the breathtaking view of one of the world’s largest domes from a designated scenic platform.
As Arthur Pope once said while visiting the Jameh Mosque of Isfahan:
"That day, when I went to see the Jameh Mosque of Isfahan and stood beneath its dome, I realized that my entire being was captivated by the dome and the mosque itself..."
