The rapid advancement of science, technology, and interdisciplinary knowledge in recent decades has brought about significant transformations across all academic and professional fields. Architecture, as a discipline that continuously interacts with technology, culture, the environment, and societal needs, has not been exempt from this process. In recent years, the emergence of advanced design and construction technologies, innovative materials, artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, computer simulations, and modern methods of building management and operation has fundamentally reshaped the field of architecture. Under such circumstances, universities and research institutions are expected not only to generate knowledge and educate qualified professionals but also to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology to society and industry. In response to this need, the Architectural Technology Scientific Hub of the University of Tehran was established as a bridge between academia, industry, and society, with the aim of advancing knowledge and technology in architecture and the built environment through scientific, educational, and research activities.
Recognizing the importance of lifelong learning and the continuous updating of professional knowledge and skills, the Hub seeks to provide an appropriate platform for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and technology among academics, researchers, students, professionals, and stakeholders in the construction industry. From this perspective, the Architectural Technology Scientific Hub is not merely a research unit; rather, it serves as a center for scientific collaboration, innovation development, support for applied research, and the promotion of scholarly activities in emerging fields of architecture and technology.
The Architectural Technology Scientific Hub of the University of Tehran commenced its activities in 2005 under the leadership of Dr. Hamed Mazaherian. The primary objective of the Hub is to achieve educational and research goals in architecture and related disciplines through the systematic production of knowledge, the development of scientific and research infrastructures, and the expansion of interdisciplinary collaborations. These objectives are pursued through four main pillars: the establishment and development of specialized infrastructures; the enhancement of education and human resource capacity building; the promotion of innovative research activities; and the dissemination of scientific concepts and achievements. Within this framework, the Hub supports the initiation and implementation of fundamental, developmental, and applied research projects and strives to facilitate the translation of research outcomes into practical solutions for the construction industry and the built environment. Particular attention has been devoted in recent years to emerging architectural technologies, digital design and fabrication, artificial intelligence, smart building technologies, sustainability, and innovation in the built environment.
Today, the Architectural Technology Scientific Hub of the University of Tehran, benefiting from the academic and research capacities of the University of Tehran and collaborating with leading national and international institutions, continues to advance knowledge, technology, and innovation in architecture and the built environment. The Hub seeks to play an influential role in shaping the future of architecture and the construction industry in Iran.
