Exhibition: Art and the Space in Between, Iran-Japan

Art and the Space in Between is the title of an event held as part of comparative studies between Iran and Japan. It took place in September 2022 at the Faculty of Architecture, College of Fine Arts, University of Tehran. The centerpiece of this event is the exhibition "MA" or "Space-Time, MA," originally organized in 1978 by the late architect Arata Isozaki—recipient of the 2019 Pritzker Prize—at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.

Following the Japanese tradition of reconstructing Ise shrine every 20 years, the exhibition was held in Tokyo two decades later. Now, 40 years after its inception, it is part of a program aimed at promoting cross-cultural engagement along the Silk Road. After being hosted in Tabriz, the exhibition is now presented in Tehran, organized by the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Tehran's College of Fine Arts.

The exhibition highlights concepts and themes rooted in Japanese history and culture, featuring installations designed by renowned Japanese artists and architects. Notably, it includes works by three Pritzker Prize-winning architects: Arata Isozaki, Shigeru Ban, and Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA).

This event is supported by Tokyo's Archi-Depot Foundation, Professor Riichi Miyake, the Persian Seismic Retrofitting Institute (Mr. Arash Sohrabi), and the Embassy of Japan in Iran. The academic and executive director of the exhibition is Dr. Elham Andaroodi, Associate Professor at the school of Architecture, with Dr. S. Yahya Eslami, head of the school of Architecture, serving as the exhibition chair.
