• Definition And Purpose Of The Course:
The Ph.D. programme of Project and Construction Management coordinates a set of scientific, educational and research activities, which include civil and industrial projects, infrastructure installation and other similar projects.  The research programme is based on concepts, attitudes, methods, techniques, software and systems related to the study, design and execution of projects following a scientific-research and theoretical methodology or a combination of both. Teaching is a means to eliminate the candidates' lack of information, smoothing out the path towards research goals. The purpose of establishing this Ph.D. programme is to accomplish one or more of these aims:
- Mastery of important scientific works in a specific aspect of project and construction management.
- Familiarity with advanced methods of research and the ability to innovative in this field.
- Reaching the latest scientific, research and technological theories in the field of project and construction management.
- Innovation in research to develop and expand the frontiers of knowledge in this field.
- Mastery of one or more areas such as teaching, research and planning, implementation or conduction and evaluation, analysing and solving scientific issues and solving the various problems of the society in the professional areas of project and construction management in order to take part in research and the higher education system or taking managerial and strategic responsibilities in government organizations and other institutions.
- Producing and distributing the knowledge of project management and construction in tune with the cultural characteristics and particular conditions of the country.

• Necessity And Significance
In addition to training manpower required by universities and other academic institutions to teach the principles of this subject, and training the required researchers and senior consultants for project and construction management in different levels of civil and industrial projects throughout the country, this programme allows graduates of project and construction management and other related fields  to continue their studies in more advanced stages and promote the expertise related to this topic within the community.

This is especially important since regardless of large-scale investment for the implementation of different projects within the country, very little has been done for the advancement of the principles of project and construction management. For this reason, the design and implementation of the Ph.D. course of project and construction management is an essential step in training the required experts in this field and, as a result, in the development of scientific capacity of the community.

• Duration of the Course
The programme has two phases of taught courses and individual research (compilation of thesis) and entry to and completion of each phase and the minimum and maximum length of courses is in accordance with the general Ph.D. course regulations.
In the taught phase of the programme, it is necessary to pass 12 to 18 lesson units according to the discretion of the relevant supervisor and the approval of the post graduate council (in addition to the compensation units passed). These lessons are selected from the main chart of Ph.D. classes. Optional units and classes belonging to other related disciplines can be selected by the discretion of the relevant Ph.D. supervisor and confirmation of the postgraduate council.
Students, who successfully pass at least 12 lesson units, can participate in the comprehensive exam, which is held according to the general Ph.D. courses regulations. This exam is both written and oral and cannot be taken more than two times. Candidates who are accepted in the comprehensive exam, can go on to register for the compilation of thesis. There is a total of 20 units that the candidates must obtain during the thesis writing phase,  which can be split into 6 to 8 units per semester.
The candidates are required to submit their proposals at the latest one semester after passing their comprehensive exam. The proposals are prepared with the guidance of supervisors and advisers in order to be defended in the meetings of the postgraduate council or thesis proposal evaluation committee. After preparing the thesis document within the required time period and obtaining confirmation of the quality and accuracy of the content from the supervisor, the candidate must defend his doctoral thesis in the presence of the jury. Any extension of the taught and research phase of the Ph.D. programme is done with reference to the general regulations.
According to the context and specific trends in the field of project and construction management, specialized taught units at the masters level are offered as prerequisite courses in the doctoral programs. Main courses in the masters program that is not obtained by postgraduate students, can be obtained as prerequisite courses in doctoral programs. During the course of study and before the comprehensive exam, candidates can pass at most two lessons or 6 units named "Special Topics". The purpose of this class is providing the most advanced issues in the areas of research, which cannot be offered in a classic taught unit or its content has not yet been approved by the planning council. The title and content of these classes should be approved by the postgraduate council of the faculty before candidates' enrolment.
In order for the program to be dynamic and up to date with the current events new findings in the field of project and construction management (whether in terms of theory or in terms of the needs of the community) the university evaluates the program once every three years, under the supervision of educational department and post graduate council. This evaluation, which considers the scientific and administrative quality of the program, announces the results and offers reform proposals to the planning council of the university. Until the new approved program is announced, the existing schedule remains valid.
