About this book

Historic cities have sustained their dynamic interaction with their natural context over time. The Historic Urban Landscape approach is an attempt to uncover this interaction and protect its achievement. This approach, as its name implies, considers the city in interaction with nature as an integral whole that any development plan and program must respect all the components of this whole. In other words, the Historic Urban Landscape seeks to preserve the historic city as a palimpsest and by reading it explores strategies for the balanced conservation and development of the city. The purpose of writing this book is to take a step towards introducing the concept of Historic Urban Landscape to Farsi-speaking students, academics, professionals, policymakers, and planners. The book was first published in 2021 on the 10th anniversary of the 2011 Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape.
